Henry Ashley (Eli, Joseph, James, Joseph, David, Robert), born 29 December 1809 in Westfield, Mass.; died 5 January 1868 in Westfield ; married 16 November 1835 in Blandford, Mass., Mary Ann Bartholomew, daughter of Samuel and Mary (Woodruff) Bartholomew, born 12 March 1816 in North Blandford, Mass.; died 15 December 1887 in Westfield.

Henry Ashley was born in the old Ashley homestead on Elm Street in Westfield, and lived there until he moved to his farm on Franklin Street, where he resided at his death. He was one of the largest farmers in Westfield.

i. MAURICE BARTHOLOMEW, b 30 Dec. 1836; was a farmer in Westfield, and d. there 7 Aug. 1858, unmarried.

ii. JANNETTE EMEGINE, b. 17 June 1839; d. 24 Aug. 1858 in Westfield, unmarried.

iii. HENRY WOODRUFF, 16 Feb. 1855.

 Henry Woodruff Ashley (Henry, Eli, Joseph, James, Joseph, David, Robert), born 16 February 1855 in Westfield, Mass. ; resides in Westfield; married 4 March 1896 in Newark, N. J., Kenzia Wright Ely, daughter of Matthias Cowell and Kezia Wright (Stackhouse) Ely, born 5 November 1863 in White Haven, Pa. Henry Woodruff Ashley attended the public schools of Westfield and was graduated at the Lam School of Boston University in 1882. He mas admitted to practice at the bar the same year, and immediately opened an office in Westfield, where he has been in practice since that time. Among the offices that Mr. Ashley held is that of United States Deputy Collector of Internal Revenue, which position he filled from 1885 to 1889. In 1892 he was chosen alternate at large from Massachusetts to the National Convention at Chicago. He was also elected a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives in the Legislature in 1892 and 1893, and while in that body served on the Judiciary and Railroad Committee. In 1896 he was again re-appointed United States Deputy Collector of Internal Revenue.
