JAMES ASHLEY (Joseph, David, Robert), born 25 February 1699-1700, in Westfield; Mass.; died 25 May 1753 in Westfield; married 30 December 1725 in West Springfield, Mass., MERCY DAY, daughter of Ebenezer and Mercy (Hitchcock) Day, born 4 November 1703 in West Springfield. She married, 2d, 25 July 1766 in Westfield, Ensign Matthew Nobel of Westfield.

James Ashley settled in his native town. He and his wife united with the church in Westfield on February 29, 1734. He was chosen town constable in 1741 and tything-man in 1747. He styled himself "yeoman."
