Migration Steps: to Barnesville, Belmont County, OH in 1827

Additional Notes: Joseph B. Bradfield, wife Isabella Watt, and children Joseph, Sarah, Elizabeth, Mary and John sailed to Baltimore May 6, 1827, arriving June 18. They went on to Barnesville, Belmont Co. OH, arriving in July, and settling on a farm about 4 miles north of the town, probably along the creek toward Hendrysville, where the couple lived out their lives. In 1828 Sarah married Robert Chatham Murrey and Elizabeth married Isaac Barnes, with their descendants traceable through census records in about 1920. Joseph married Jane ? and died before 1860. Mary married Patrick Coony in 1836 and moved to Guernsey County, then Perry County, and in about 1845 on to Knox County, MO. This couple were my great-grandparents. John Bradfield became a wellknown merchant, also buying shipping leaf tobacco. He married Eliza Shannon in 1842, and their descendants can also be traced in the area for many years. I discovered a map showing the airport being called the Barnesville-Bradfield Airport, indicating the family was quite well-regarded there.
