Bio Obit*John Moseley was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on August 13, 1927. He was the son of John Frederick Bourinot Moseley and Jean Henry Moseley. John was a Canadian citizen but lived and worked in the United States for over sixty years. As a child, John and his sister Jane spent wonderful summers at their grandparent’s home in River John, Nova Scotia, where he knew every rock on the beach where he played. He attended Dalhousie University in Halifax. John was married to Helen Moller in 1954. Together they had four children. In 1978, John married Carolyn Fred Miller and they enjoyed a loving relationship for 39 years at their home on Laurel Way, Norfolk. John worked as a research engineer for Canada Air, Warner Brake and Clutch, General Time, and then retired after an extended employment with the Torrington Company, part of Ingersoll Rand. John and his family delighted in their vacations in Nova Scotia with John’s sister’s family, sailing on John Bay, camping, and bon fires. He was a talented wood worker, gardener, photographer, and tinkerer with electrical gadgetry. John savored classical music and opera, his favorites being La Traviata and the Barber of Seville. Biography*Farmer, Union Soldier & Coal Miner.
In 1861 enlisted in Company D, 113th Pennsylvania Volunteers which later became 12th Pennsylvania Cavalry. His regiment participated in the Battle of Fredericksburg, the Battle of Gettysburg, the march on Richmond, and the Battle of Appomattox Station. After the civil war, he served two years with the 6th U.S. Cavlary charged with keeping the peace in Texas. In 1867 he settled down as a coal miner in Cambria and later Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
