Biographical Notes

Bio Published*INBODY, LEWIS, AND LUCY (RICHARDS)
Lewis Inbody was born in Elkhart, Indiana on October 3, 1845. He immigrated to Iowa with his parents as a child. He married Lucy Richards in Belle Plaine, Iowa in 1866 and they came to York County in 1870 and pioneered Section 14 of Waco Township - 5 1/2 miles N.E. of Waco, NE. Lucy was born in Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania on July 15, 1848 and moved to Iowa as a girl.

The Inbodys had 9 children - 3 died in infancy. The 6 living children were Nellie (Tagg-Allen), Delno, Rudy, Hattie (Stephens), Lora (Read), Ree (Pirie-Wirt).

They farmed with 2 ox teams to cultivate the homestead in the early '70's. Grasshoppers ruined the crops and drought came and so they came into the Village of Waco in 1878 and he continued to practice the Blacksmith trade that he had learned as a Farrier in 1864 in Company B - Ninth Iowa Cavalry -- (Civil War). He was discharged in 1866.

He was a blacksmith for 51 years and was a charter member of the Methodist church and considered a Christian gentleman. He was a great help in his neighborhood and Lucy was often called upon as a mid-wife. Lewis passed away in Waco at his home on February 12, 1921. Lucy continued to live in their 2-story home south of the tracks until her death on June 6, 1938 The family farm was tended by their son Delno until 1936.
